Best-touching-scene Advertisement Award in Malaysia

Friday, June 8th, 2007

I have been an avid fan of Digi’s advertisement. If you have no idea what Digi is, perhaps you should try remembering about the fat yellow man with smile as warm as the Sun. You still don’t get it? How about the famous advertisement with the theme song “I will follow you” with all the yellow man hiking and shipping…

By the way, Digi is related and in fact one of the best telephone and hand phone network, offering 15 cents or less (I am not updated and not interested at all) to make phone calls and SMSes (do I look like promoting one?). However, Digi did a great job in promoting their latest offers. The directors and crew have a sense of inner sense that tell them, we can be touched! When we are touched, we will indeed do anything to support them.

I especially love the advertisement with “I’ll follow you” as the song. It is indeed very inspirational to everyone from all walks of life. I can almost remember the tunes by now. That is also a really good one to promote their ‘products’. But imagining the fat creepy yellow man following me all the time really makes my hair stands.

Lately, I saw an advertisement that instils the sense of father-daughter relationship. I will somewhat try to summarise the story here. The story starts of with a girl saying “My grandmother tells me that being a fisherman is not easy, and my dad is one of them. My dad is one fierce man. He seems to control my life and I hated it so much. He never buys anything special for me. I envy my friend,’ Lily’. Her dad will buy anything for her.

Later, my dad retired from his fisherman job and stay at home more often. I was 16 then. Once, I met a guy and I like him very much. I believe that he do love me. Dad saw us holding hands and looking at each other so intimately that he calls off the boy and order me to go to the living room.

I was scolded that night. I felt like running away. A year later, I found a job in the city. As I board into the bus, I saw dad approaching. He didn’t cry. Instead, he just gives me a cheap hand phone. (In the city)When I was alone and sad, dad suddenly call up. He asks me in a soft tone about my current whereabouts and my welfare.”

Happy ending! The advertisement nevertheless has touched many of my classmate’s heart. My friend even commented that the ad improved her relationship with her Dad and indeed she feels better chatting with her Dad.

There is more Digi’s ad that I feel like pouring out my utmost gratitude but deep down in my heart, I hope that the government, the department as well as advertisers and company will promote something worth remembering of and have plenty and many moral values in it instead of just advertising their items. It will brings miracles and wonders to a child ,teenagers, adult and seniors.
